Dreams and Homeopathy
Dreams still remain a mystery to the scientific world. It is still a mystery why we dream, even if the dream we have is a good kind of dream (like we live in a nice big house), or a scary kind of dream (like a dream where a murderer is chasing us). Although the scientific world continues to do the necessary studies about the reason, there are many benefits of dreaming, especially in the field of homeopathy…
Almost everyone has the classic “exam” dream that they have seen at least a few times in their life. In your dream, you may have seen various situations such as being late for the lesson, not being able to find the class, missing the exam, studying for the wrong lesson. After waking up, you may find this dream meaningless and ignore it because you are no longer a student, or you can instantly understand that this dream reflects what is going on in your life… Maybe this dream you see represents how unprepared you are for a business project you are carrying out, or it may remind you of a task you forgot. …
Although the perspectives on dreams differ from society to society, the vast majority of us still pay very little attention to dreams. But in fact, dreams can be very useful for self-discovery and solving problems… Of course, it takes some practice to solve the meaning in dreams…
There are resources about dream interpretations in many cultures and languages, there are many common meanings between these resources, to give a few examples;
Falling: Insecurity, loss of control, feeling threatened
Chasing: Escaping your fears
Teeth falling out: Anxiety, loss of face, worries about self-image, inability to grasp something
Being naked in public: feeling vulnerable, worried about something that is or will happen, desire to be noticed
Ocean: unconscious, emotional energy
Train: Power, freedom
Island: Isolation, solitude, peace, longing for independence
Flying: Desire for freedom, releasing creative energy, transcending boundaries
Finding a new room in a house: Discovering a side of you you weren’t aware of

Before moving on to the relationship of dreams with homeopathy, I would like to share with you a dream that my patient has had intermittently for at least 15 years and its interpretation. A male patient of mine dreams of a gun that does not fire. The enemy comes up against him, he fires his gun, but the bullet floats in the air like a matrix and falls to the ground, hits with the pistol’s butt, the iron gun turns into a plastic gun. He says that he started having these dreams for the first time when he was at university, and he tells with a laugh that once the gun went off, he shot his math teacher in his dream, and he passed that exam as well. Of course, time passes, he sees the same dream again until 3-5 months ago, when he sees this dream once again, he analyzes this dream by analyzing the situation he lived the day before. One day, our patient got bored with a friend of hers at work, but he kept quiet in order not to break his heart, and this silence caused him some trouble. He repeated this event in his head throughout the day… He realizes that when the gun did not fire again in the dream he saw on the night of this day. The gun doesn’t fire either because he restrained himself from his friend’s behavior and didn’t reveal his thoughts. He commented on his own that if he had expressed his discomfort, this gun would have exploded…
Let’s come to the meaning and importance of dreams in homeopathy…
In a research project on the role and utility of dream interpretation in homeopathic practice, 30 cases were studied and the results are really pretty…
“A dream not understood remains just an event; Once understood, it becomes a living experience.” – Carl Gustav Jung
The role of dreams in understanding the mental state:
The emotions or bodily reactions that occur in the dream, as well as the emotions or bodily reactions that occur when talking about the dream, are part of the overall image. They often lead directly to the emotions that underlie dreams. Thus, they provide a glimpse into the true mental state of the individual.
For the question of which dreams will be analyzed, we can look at these three items;
Recurring dreams that last for a certain period of time.
Vivid, detailed and memorable dreams.
Dreams that leave a strong emotional impact on the person during or after their occurrence.
How do we analyze?
Before we move on to the do’s, we should clarify the do’s and don’ts. These:
Avoid all fixed interpretations of symbols, such as inferring the meaning of sex for the snake.
Avoid interpreting when dreams are not fully remembered and interpreted.
Avoid instant interpretation without reference to context.
It is useful to look at dreams in two ways:
Content of dreams
The context in which they emerged
Dreams play a dual role in homeopathic case taking:
Revealing repressed desires and emotions.
To provide relevant rubrics for repertorization.
Study:
A retrospective case series study of 30 cases was conducted as part of a thesis submitted to the University of Mumbai in 2007 for an MD degree to examine dreams and relate them to expressions of the underlying mental state.
Results Obtained at the End of the Study:
The results of the study are as follows:
Dream interpretation was possible in 83% of cases (it was possible in 25 of 30 cases).
Dream interpretation was not possible in 17% (5 cases) of the cases, because no relationship could be established with the living situation.
In 83% of the interpreted cases, dreams played a key role in understanding the actual mental state in 72% of the cases (18 cases); and in the remaining 28% (7 cases) the mood was well understood through the life situation of the patient’s dreams, and the dreams enhanced the understanding of the mental state.
In the study, dreams served as a resolving symptom in 6.67% (2 cases).
Dreams were used as characteristic symptoms in 93.33% of the cases (28 cases).
Various dreams were seen in 30 cases taken in this study. The highest incidence is Water Dreams with 9.32% (11 cases), followed by Dreams of the Dead and Injury and Blood Dreams with 5.93% (7 cases).
Various themes were reflected in the interpretation of dreams from the 25 interpreted cases; The underlying theme of Anxiety and Sexuality was seen in 22.03% (13 cases) of the cases; This was followed by Suppressed emotions in 18.64% of cases (11 cases). Violence and Aggression (8 cases) in 56% of cases, Fear in 6.78% of cases (4 cases), Loneliness and Abandonment in 6.78% of cases (4 cases), 6.78% of cases ( 4 cases) Unfulfilled desires, Clarity, and Contempt were also noted in this study.
The interpretation of dreams can mislead the physician if not interpreted correctly. Dream interpretation requires the highest level of discipline. Imaginary interpretations have no role in understanding the real mental state and can be dangerous.
It is important to have a detailed interview focusing on childhood, upbringing, schooling, work and family with various expressions from time to time in order to understand the benefits and interpretations of dreams based on living space and behavior patterns.
Alongside the remedial measures, where the main premise was a constitutional solution, side measures helped. Active interactions with the patient and, in some cases, their relatives at some stages of the treatment helped in the recovery process. It helped the patient be aware of their problems, identify specific problem areas, and deal with these problems in line with the guidance or recommendations of the treating physician. In some cases, these interactions gave the patient new perspectives or a chance to look back.
As a result, dreams may appear as information that will shed light on the path that leads to finding the most appropriate remedy in homeopathy. As a note, the possibility of giving a wrong remedy should not be overlooked due to the different interpretation of this issue.
